June 2009 Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center is a start-up operation to be constructed in North Brentwood, Maryland. Located in Prince George’s County, the first municipality incorporated by African American citizens in the County, the museum is an anchor project in the Gateway Arts District and will be a strong addition to the region, which hosts the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art and the Anacostia Museum. The PGAAMCC will create opportunities for celebrating and learning about the historical, social, cultural and artistic contributions made by African Americans and people of African descent and heritage to the County. Recognizing the challenges of a nonprofit start-up in the midst of the economic downturn, Schultz & Williams is working with the Board and Executive Director to provide an in-depth assessment of the project, key messaging concepts leading to a compelling Case for Support, defined fundraising goals, an understanding of key stakeholder groups and individuals, fundamentals for communications and fundraising plans, Board training, benchmarking and an environmental scan of the region. Arch Development Corporation (ADC) is dedicated to the proposition of community re-vitalization that includes a thriving art scene. With the approval of a new strategic plan, ADC recognized that more than 25 years of "traditional" efforts to create sustainable economic growth and social revitalization of Anacostia (D.C.’s most famous historic neighborhood in the Southeast quadrant) by the District of Columbia and other agents was not producing outcomes with the desired scope and force they expected. Since adopting its most current strategic plan in 2004, however, ADC has made substantial progress on several fronts including: the Honfleur Gallery, the partnership with the American Poetry Museum, the Artists Housing and Residency projects and the Vivid Solutions program, to name a few.
