January 2007– Schultz & Williams continues its engagement as development counsel with The Trust for the National Mall in Washington, DC. The Trust is the official partner of the National Park Service and was incorporated in May 2002 to raise awareness and funds for the restoration, conservation and transformation of the National Mall—America’s Front Yard—to its original, historical role. It has been 30 years since the last major renovation on the Mall, and today there are significant capital projects—estimated at approximately $30 million—that must be undertaken immediately; private fundraising will be required for longer-range projects and an endowment.

Schultz & Williams has been working with the Trust since August 2007 and was recently retained to continue our work during this crucial start-up period. Over the past four months, Schultz & Williams has helped launch the Trust’s development program by developing strategies to successfully cultivate and solicit key leadership donors, providing research and screening for top prospects, conducting Board and volunteer training, by identifying and recruiting prospective members of the Board, and by staffing Trust leadership for development efforts.

Our role in 2008 is to create positioning and fundraising momentum for the Trust. Building on our work, Schultz & Williams will continue to support the unique mission of the Trust and provide cultivation strategies for the identification and recruitment of lead prospects for seed-funding and for moving forward with Board recruitment and leadership gifts. S&W will provide development counsel for the Trust’s first fundraising event in spring 2008 and for connecting the event to an overall major gifts development strategy. In addition, S&W will help the Trust develop a programmatic case for support and a comprehensive strategic development plan for evolving a best practice fundraising operation.
