Great News from the USPS October 2009 We here at S&W Direct understand the importance of budgeting for your future work (we take projections very seriously!) – which is why we’re so excited that the USPS has just announced that there will be no postage rate increase in 2010 for first-class and standard mail. “Simply stated, there will not be a price increase for market dominant products including First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, periodicals, single-piece Parcel Post. There will be no exigent price increase for these products. “While increasing prices might have generated revenue for the Postal Service in the short term, the long term effect could drive additional mail out of the system," said Postmaster General John E. Potter in a statement. "We want mailers to continue to invest in mail to grow their business, communicate with valued customers, and maintain a strong presence in the marketplace." Under current regulations, the USPS is allowed to increase postage 1% each year. However, it is allowed to file for an exception based on revenue shortfalls (which we have all been hearing about!), but fortunately the USPS decided against that for this upcoming year. Priority Mail, Express Mail, Parcel Select and international products are still under consideration and a decision on a price increase for these products will be made in November. At Schultz & Williams, we always utilize pre-sort options that maximize savings and develop creative packages that promise to deliver the most efficient mailer possible.
