Battleship New Jersey
Camden, New Jersey
Client Challenge:
The Battleship New Jersey was five years old and at a cross-roads. It had stabilized financials, but needed to find new opportunities to grow and enhance the visitor experience. Staff and leadership began looking to re-energize board and clarify roles and expectations.
Schultz & Williams Approach:
Schultz & Williams conducted a comprehensive strategic planning process over a six month period. We interviewed key board members, conducted multiple workshops for the executive management team and looked at a long-term vision to define and refine the future direction of this visitor attraction. Our team also developed a strategic profile of the organization to illustrate the current position of the ship and highlight its successes since the opening. We worked closely with the president and staff to identify short-term opportunities to increase attendance, generate additional revenue, and strengthen mission programs.
Results:
Schultz & Williams succeeded in refining the long term mission and vision of the Battleship with complete support from both board and staff – and we helped them create a fundraising and development plan that is still in use. Our team created a number of visitor experiences that could be quickly implemented to increase revenue and provide additional attractions. We also provided recommendations to better balance operating income, increasing contributed income while reducing reliance on government support. The president continues to rely on Schultz & Williams as a strategic resource in the implementation of the plan.
