M. Jane Williams, Principal – Jane Williams has extensive experience in the design and implementation of all types of development programs, including capital campaign planning and implementation. Her areas of special focus include strategies for attracting significant gifts from individuals; board and staff training for fundraising; assessment of development programs; and interim development management. She also provides critical services to clients in defining the most effective structure for an organization’s development operations and for engaging key leadership – staff and volunteers – in the fundraising process. Jane has worked with a broad variety of health care, educational, cultural and social service organizations.

Among her recent major consulting projects for Schultz & Williams, Jane has served as Interim Executive Director of Development at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and has structured a development program for Montgomery County Community College (Blue Bell, PA). Other projects include a campaign planning study and campaign implementation for Arcadia University (Glenside, PA), structuring and staffing a campaign for the Lower Merion Library System (Ardmore, PA), and a campaign planning study for Cabrini College (Radnor, PA). As a consultant, Jane has also headed development programs for the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Medical Center.

Jane became a partner in Schultz & Williams in 1990, following 23 years as a development officer at five different institutions in the fields of health care and higher education. As VP for Development at New York University Medical Center, she headed a program that raised over $50 million annually and she planned a $100 million capital campaign centered on a biomedical research facility. Jane served as Assistant VP for Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Pennsylvania, where she played a leadership role in planning the University’s successful $1.4 billion capital campaign. She was Assistant VP and Campaign Director for Temple University’s first capital campaign and held development positions at The Medical College of Pennsylvania and Haverford College.

Jane Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA and MEd from Temple University. She has frequently been a speaker on a range of fundraising issues and has taught courses at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. She is the author of several books on fundraising, including Big Gifts: How to Maximize Gifts from Individuals; The FRI Annual Giving Book; and the Foundation Primer: How to Run a Profitable Foundation-Solicitation Program.
